Fishing Report August 28th – September 3rd

The Devil’s Lake fishing report for the week August 28th to September 3rd, 2017. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. The largest, most experienced, professional, full time Guide Service serving the Devils Lake basin.

This is been a very interesting and sometimes challenging week of fishing for us here at Devils Lake North Dakota. Many families here in North Dakota started school last week. Elsewhere almost all schools will have started by this week’s end. We are now at post Labor Day weekend and that means there will be less boats on the water and no waiting at the boat launches. If you like peace, quiet, serenity and great fall fishing all rolled into one? Devils Lake, North Dakota has the capability of providing you with just that kind of autumn outdoor experience.

The fall patterns for walleye and pike fishing are now starting with the cooler nights and lower daytime temps. For many die hard anglers, fall fishing is just what the doctor ordered. Already this last week we have seen a lake in transition. Numbers of fish caught were down, but the quality of the fish caught improved by our groups. A few incidental jumbo perch have been caught while fishing walleyes and once again some very good northern pike.

Our guides are trolling spinners and on some days are trolling crankbaits. With crankbait trolling, Salmos, Rapala Shad Raps and Berkeley Flicker Shads have been the go-to baits. The great thing about fall fishing? Your chances greatly improve for that elusive trophy walleye or giant northern pike.

Mitchell’s Guide Service has openings in September and October with guides available on short notice for day trips or two and three day guided packages. We can and have handled groups of up to 50 anglers. One thing for certain, our staff of professional, experienced guides will work hard to see that your day of fishing is both memorable and productive.
