June 19th-25th Fishing Report

The Devils Lake Fishing Report for the week of June 19th to June 25, 2017. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. The largest, most experienced and professional guide service serving the Devils Lake basin.

It has been a very interesting week here on the big frog pond. Relatively stable weather arrived this week, so the fishing has been very good. The annual Chamber of Commerce walleye tournament was cancelled Thursday and Friday due to inclement weather and high winds. Friday and Saturday’s severe cold front did slow down the bite, but our guides still managed to get some groups out. Sunday’s fishing started to pick up after the big blow, with huge successes being reported all around the lake.

This next week the weather looks very promising despite the occasional thunderstorm, the fishing will pick up accordingly. In spite of the weather, some very nice fish have been caught and released along with excellent limits of eater walleyes. The lake continues to rise slightly. The summer peak of fishing at Devils Lake is just beginning. July and August will see the most stable weather periods of the summer.

As the water temperature rises the fish are becoming more active and are finally leaving the foliage in the shallows to head into 10 feet of water as well as 18-20 feet, fish are being caught on the spinner bottom bouncer set up. The fish this time of year are attracted to bright and warm colors such as orange or yellow.

With our expanded guide staff we have openings for both those months. Now would be a great time to book a guided fishing trip on Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. This vast fishery is still expanding. Rich in forage for fish of all sizes, you will find fat healthy walleyes almost everywhere you fish. With over 220,000 acres of fertile water, a guided trip with Mitchell’s Guide Service will help acclimate you to fishing Devils Lake, North Dakota Style.
