A Dropper Rig Worked Best

There was a lot of activity this past weekend throughout the basin. We’ve heard reports from around 10 inches of ice up on Alice, Mike’s, and Dry lake with some people going out with ATV’s and snobears. People have started venturing out on the main lake as well but the ice conditions are still spotty between 2″ and 6″ on most parts of the main lake.  (East Bay, Six Mile Bay, and Pelican)
We were able to get out in Creel Bay, fishing 27′ of water and found anywhere from 4″-6″ of ice. The good news is there was plenty of Perch as we marked them for a solid 3 hours. After throwing just about everything at them we finally found a dropper rig worked best. If you take a buckshot, remove the hook and tie the hook on about 2.5″ below the jig- you’ll have the perfect setup for finicky fish. We had better luck using wax worms vs. minnows. (Wax worms available in the baitshop)
It looks like the forecast is favorable to continue growing ice! It will be a couple of weeks before we get our houses out for groups utilizing our fish houses but we do have plenty of lodging available for our early ice DIYers.
Reservations for fish house lodging packages are already filling in on the weekends throughout the ice season. Just a note for you flexible people– Sunday’s through Wednesdays typically have better availability.
Kyle and Zippy are headed to the St. Paul Sports Show this weekend, be sure to stop by and say hi!
