Fishing Report July 4th

Fishing Report July 4, 2014

Oh what another windy week we have had. Despite having 3 days of the windiest weather of the season, after it passed and our team from Mitchell’s Guide Service finally got back on the water, the fish were right where we left them. The best places have continued to be the windswept shorelines, using bottom bouncers with spinners or pitching plastics and #5 or #7 Rapala and Salamo in Perch pattern into these areas. Jigging some of the many bridges with jigs tipped with minnows or leaches as worked well. Keep in mind when doing this method to use a jig heavy enough to keep contact with the bottom. Some of these areas do have some strong current, so always remember to use a heavy enough jig.

Areas to target on Devils Lake include sunken roads and deep weed edges which can range from 7 to 10 feet of water. East Devils Lake, New Mill Bay, Cactus Point, and the north end of Creel Bay have all been producing a lot of fish.

Shore fishing on Devils Lake has been very good in the early morning and late evenings for anyone that is looking to put some lines in the water and catch some nice walleyes. Areas to target when fishing from shore include the Woods-Rutten Road, any of the bridges including Six Mile Bay and the Casino Bridge, and also the road out to Grahams Island just to name a few spots.

We have all of the tackle mentioned above along with some of the hottest colors that have been working well here at the Woodland Resort bait shop.

We still have many great dates available for July and August, so let one of our 11 guides take you out and experience some of the Midwest’s best walleye fishing this season with Mitchell’s Guide Service.
