The Devil’s Lake Fishing Report for the week of May 28th to June 3rd, 2018. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. The largest, most experienced and professional full-time Guide Service serving the Devils Lake basin.
This past week the weather has been forcing the guide service to use unorthodox fishing methods. When the sun appears and the wind dies down the fish are biting aggressively. There have been days of excellent fishing and days that were tough. However, on the days in which the weather was good, the fishing was excellent. Fish were still caught throughout the week by our clients, even on the cloudy and windy days- just at a slower rate.
As the weather has been better these past few days the quality of fishing has been increasing. On average the fishing this past week has been typical of May and June. There were several good limits of walleye caught, some larger walleye were released and a few giant pike were caught. When the weather was stable effective presentations included trolling and casting crankbaits, trolling spinners, and pitching jigs. Throughout the week the bobber bite was strong and our largest fish, a twenty-two pound northern was caught on a slip-bobber rig using a 1/16 ounce jig. Fish are being caught with a variety of colors and presentations, making fishing during this past week an enjoyable challenge. Leeches are still the dominant bait and are a must on slip bobber setups.
We at Mitchell’s Guide Service have limited days available in June. Our expanded staff of guides is available on short notice for day trips and two and three day guided packages.
