Guided, on the move
Run and Gun SnoBear trips
A SnoBear is a heated fish house on tracks. Your guide drives it onto the ice, drills through the floor, and moves you to new fish when the bite slows. Add a room for a Stay and Fish trip.
- 8 hours on the ice, about 7 AM to 3 PM
- Rods, tackle, live and frozen bait, Livescope and Vexilar
- 2 or 3 anglers per SnoBear, with guides Zack and Garrett Schemionek
- Season runs December 20 to March 15, depending on ice
Day trips from $700 for 2 anglers
Fish on your own

Pre-heated, pre-drilled 2, 4 and 6 person houses, kept on the best nearby bite by our ice crew. Rent by the day, or make it a package with lodging and two houses a day: a walleye house for morning and evening and a perch house for midday.

- Not a guided trip, but the crew moves you when you ask
- Expedition houses at private accesses for experienced anglers

Ice fishing questions
Still wondering about something? Call the front desk at (701) 662-5996.
All questions and policiesWhen is ice fishing season?
Fish house rentals run from mid-December to March 14, sunrise to sunset. SnoBear trips run December 20 to March 15, depending on ice.
Do I need a guide?
No. You can fish on your own from a rental fish house, your own boat or a rental boat, and our staff are glad to share local advice. A guide brings the boat or SnoBear, the gear and the bait, and moves you to the fish. Beginners are welcome on Perch Patrol trips.
Is a fish house package a guided trip?
No. Fish house packages are not guided fishing trips, but our crew works hard to keep the houses on the best fishing in the area and will move you if you ask. For a guided day on the ice, book Run and Gun SnoBear or Perch Patrol through Woodland.
Do you have sleeper houses?
No. There is no night bite on Devils Lake, so fishing runs sunrise to sunset. If you have your own sleeper, see the Bring Your Own Ice House pass.
Can I drive to my fish house?
Yes, on the plowed ice roads. A team member leads the way, and staff also give rides to and from the houses.
When is the big ice fishing tournament on Devils Lake?
The Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament is held on Six Mile Bay on a Saturday in late January and draws thousands of anglers. It is one of the busiest weekends of the winter around the lake, so book lodging and fish houses early. The fire department announces each year's date and registration.
Can I get a big fish weighed for the Whopper Club?
Yes. Woodland Resort is an official North Dakota Game and Fish Whopper Club weigh station. Bring your fish to the bait shop and we will weigh it on our certified scale and sign your application. Mail it to Game and Fish within 90 days of the catch. Minimums and forms for the Whopper Club and the Catch and Release Club are on the Game and Fish clubs page.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, every angler needs a North Dakota fishing license. Buy one online from North Dakota Game and Fish (gf.nd.gov). If you couldn't buy one ahead of time, the bait shop staff can help.
What should I bring?
Appropriate clothing for the ice, food and refreshments, rods and fishing equipment, and a North Dakota fishing license. Packages include pre-heated, pre-drilled houses, transport, and bait: live bait for jigging and frozen bait for tip-ups. Flashers and augers rent for $30 a day each.
