Fish house rentals run from mid-December to March 14, sunrise to sunset. SnoBear trips run December 20 to March 15, depending on ice.
Is a fish house package a guided trip?
No. Fish house packages are not guided fishing trips, but our crew works hard to keep the houses on the best fishing in the area and will move you if you ask. For a guided day on the ice, book Run and Gun SnoBear or Perch Patrol through Woodland.
Why do packages include two houses a day?
Every fish house package includes one house for the morning and evening walleye bite and one for daytime perch, already in the package price.
What should I bring?
Appropriate clothing for the ice, food and refreshments, rods and fishing equipment, and a North Dakota fishing license. Packages include pre-heated, pre-drilled houses, transport, and bait: live bait for jigging and frozen bait for tip-ups. Flashers and augers rent for $30 a day each.
How many lines can I fish?
North Dakota allows 4 lines per angler. We plan 2 holes per person inside the houses and drill extra holes outside for tip-ups on request.
Can I drive to my fish house?
Yes, on the plowed ice roads. A team member leads the way, and staff also give rides to and from the houses.
Do you have sleeper houses?
No. There is no night bite on Devils Lake, so fishing runs sunrise to sunset. If you have your own sleeper, see the Bring Your Own Ice House pass.
What does a typical day look like?
Around 7 AM, meet at the bait shop and staff take you out to your house. They check on you during the day, move you if you ask, and pick everyone up near dark.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, every angler needs a North Dakota fishing license. Buy one online from North Dakota Game and Fish (gf.nd.gov). If you couldn't buy one ahead of time, the bait shop staff can help.
Do you have group rates?
Fish house packages are priced for groups of up to 6 in the calculator; call (701) 662-5996 for groups of 7 or more. Groups of 12 or more get special fish house rates.
What is the cancellation policy for lodging?
Guests are responsible for the full stay. Motel rooms can be canceled without penalty 30 or more days before arrival; inside 30 days you are charged if the room can't be rebooked. Cabins, suites and lodge units have a 60-day policy: cancellations within 60 days of arrival pay a $50 handling fee, and if the stay can't be rebooked the deposit is kept and the rest of the stay is billed.
When is the big ice fishing tournament on Devils Lake?
The Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament is held on Six Mile Bay on a Saturday in late January and draws thousands of anglers. It is one of the busiest weekends of the winter around the lake, so book lodging and fish houses early. The fire department announces each year's date and registration.
